Methoni
Methoni is one of the most historic and picturesque areas of Messinia. Its impressive castle, which extends into the sea, is one of the most important Venetian fortifications in the Mediterranean. The turquoise waters, sandy beaches and the unique landscape create an ideal destination for relaxation and exploration.
Sapienza
Sapienza is one of the most unique islands of Messinia and lies opposite Methoni, at the southwestern tip of the Peloponnese. Its name comes from the Italian word sapienza, meaning “wisdom”. It belongs to the small island complex of the Messinian Oinousses and is a true natural paradise in the Ionian Sea. Although the island is relatively small, it impresses visitors with its wild beauty, crystal-clear waters and striking natural landscape.
The island remains uninhabited and preserves an authentic, untouched character. Sapienza is known for its rich Mediterranean vegetation and unique ecosystem, as much of the island is protected as part of the Natura 2000 network. In its forests, visitors may even encounter wild animals such as the famous kri-kri goats, which live freely in the area and are one of the island’s most distinctive features.
Sapienza’s coastline is filled with small coves and impressive spots with deep blue waters. Many of the island’s beaches are accessible only by sea, which helps keep them almost untouched. Among the most well-known is Ammos Beach, famous for its clear waters and beautiful natural surroundings.
Sapienza also has a long maritime history, as since ancient times the surrounding waters have been an important passage for ships traveling between the West and the East. For this reason, scientists have recorded several historic shipwrecks around the island, including the Roman sarcophagi and the “columns shipwreck”, which carried the columns from the peristyle built by Herod in Caesarea of Palestine in the 1st century AD. Because of these shipwrecks, Queen Victoria ordered the construction of a lighthouse in 1885, which still operates today in automated form.
Today, Sapienza is an ideal destination for those who wish to discover the authentic side of Messinia. With its turquoise waters, secluded coves and impressive natural beauty, the island offers an experience that combines exploration, relaxation and unforgettable moments at sea.
Agia Marina
Agia Marina is located next to Sapienza and is considered one of the most beautiful anchorages in the area. Its enchanting beach with crystal-clear waters offers a truly stunning natural landscape. On the small island there is also a charming chapel dedicated to Saint Marina, which celebrates its feast day on July 17th.
Finikounda
Finikounda is a charming seaside village with a marina, beautiful beaches and a lively tourist atmosphere. Its clear waters, seaside tavernas and relaxed summer vibe make it a favorite destination for visitors from all over the world.
Pylos

Some of its most important landmarks include the Niokastro Fortress, the Square of the Three Admirals, the Palace of Nestor, the Bay of Navarino and the island of Sfaktiria. The natural harbor is protected by the island of Sfaktiria, which can be visited by boat and is home to monuments dedicated to fallen soldiers.
Voidokilia
Voidokilia Beach is one of the most famous and impressive beaches in Greece. Its unique shape, resembling the Greek letter Omega (Ω), and its turquoise waters create a breathtaking natural landscape. It is located next to the Gialova Lagoon, an important wetland with rich wildlife and rare bird species. The area is part of the Natura 2000 network due to its remarkable biodiversity.
